I used to live in Jacksonville, Florida but have since moved up north.
I lived there for almost ten years before my Grandpa died and I inherited her house in Jax.
What was I going to do with an inherited Jacksonville, Florida property? I didn’t live and had no desire to. Everyone told me that I should rent it out. Can you imagine dealing with a rental when you don’t live in the same state? It is a 16 hour drive or two flights to get there. What if something major happens? Ii would be calling for repairs all the time. If there was even a leaky toilet, I would have to call a plumber rather than do it myself. No way. The smart thing was to just sell it and pocket the money. Listing it online was a mess. The Florida real estate agent wanted a ton of feedback and work on my part. My Grandpa didn’t keep her place updated. The powder room was basically falling down and the floor was squishy. The living room had aged appliances. The home offices needed a fresh coat of paint. The yard absolutely needed a crew to cut, trim, and edge everything. There was also the master of my Grandpa’s belongings. Someone needs the place too much and gets it clean. That wasn’t going to be me. I decided that rather than hire a bunch of services, I was just going to be a money house buyer. The Jax money house client was great about an as is situation. I did nothing but sign a paper and get money. The household was then gone.
